wedding favors

Wedding favors are small gifts given as a gesture of appreciation or gratitude to guests from the bride and groom during a wedding ceremony or a wedding reception.

The tradition of distributing wedding favors is a very old one. It is believed that the first wedding favor, common amongst European aristocrats, was known as a bonbonniere. A bonbonniere is a small trinket box made of crystal, porcelain, and/or precious stones. The contents of these precious boxes were generally sugar cubes or delicate confections, which symbolize wealth and royalty. (In this era, sugar was an expensive commodity and was treasured only among the wealthy. It was believed that sugar contained medical benefits).[citation needed] As the price of sugar decreased throughout centuries, the tradition of providing gifts to guests reached the general populace and was embraced by couples of modest means.

As sugar became more affordable, bonbonnieres were replaced with almonds. For centuries, almonds were commonly distributed to wedding guests to signify well wishes on the bridegroom’s new life. In the thirteenth century, almonds coated with sugar, known as confetti, were introduced. Confetti soon transformed to sugared almonds, which later evolved into the wedding favor for modern day weddings. Traditionally, five Jordan almonds are presented in a confection box or wrapped in elegant fabric to represent fertility, longevity, wealth, health and happiness. The bitterness of the almond and the sweetness of the coated candy exemplify the bitter sweetness of a marriage.

Today, gifts to guests are commonly known as wedding favors and are shared in cultures worldwide. Wedding favors have become a part of wedding reception planning, especially in the United States and Canada. Wedding favors are diverse and usually complement the theme or season of the event. Classic favors can range from the classic sugared almonds or individual chocolates to candles and scented soaps. Modern gift trends include: CDs with the favorite music of the bride and groom, shot glasses filled with colored candy or silver picture frames with a photo of the couple. Gifts may also be personalized with the couple's names, initials or wedding date.

wedding invitation wording

Your wedding invitation wording has to fit the type of wedding you wish to have. Long gone are the days of formal invites. What you have to decide is how you want your invite to be worded. Do you want your parents names placed with yours? Does you or your fiancée family name go first? If the brides parents are paying have her parents’ names precede hers followed by the groom’s name.

Now you don’t have to be formal with your wedding invitation wording. You can simple state both of your names and that you would like to enjoy each guest to welcome in your marriage. Any way for wording works just fine. Thought you could decide that you both want to have your parent’s names on the invitation.

With that in mind you can have the bride’s parents name come first, that they would like to announce the marriage of their daughter. Then place the brides name and who she is marrying after that you can have the groom’s parent’s names.

Though things will be different if you have stepparents the wording for your wedding invitation will have to be thought out. If you place one set of parents then you need to place the all the names on the invite. If only one parent is married, mention them first then the other parents name and finally yours. If both are married mention both of their names. This is a choice you both need to decide on; too many names might confuse people if they don’t know your family though at the same leaving a parent off the invite might hurt feelings.

Your wedding invitation wording will have balance your wishes and how you want your invite to look. Anything is acceptable right now and it boils down what you and your fiancée want to do.

wedding theme

Plan a Wedding with a Dramatic Theme:

Garden Party. An elegant garden party can be the perfect setting for an intimate wedding. Use a bird’s nest for the “ring pillow” and make individual bird’s nests that have jelly beans in the center for place cards, favors, and decorations. Wear a wedding gown made of light lace or organza to fit the theme. Use fruit as an addition to flower centerpieces and have the flower girl pull a wagon filled with rose petals down the aisle.

“Green” Wedding. Eco-conscious couples might consider planning an environmentally friendly wedding. Use herbs to decorate the location. This is cost effective and will make the reception smell earthy. Small potted herbs can be used for decorations, name cards, and favors. If interested, check out two articles written for this wedding theme: Eco-Friendly Engagement Rings and Wear an Eco-Chic Wedding Dress.

House Party. Ever think about hosting a wedding at home? If there is enough room at home or in the backyard, this can become an intimate, beautiful wedding theme. Serve lemonade and sweet tea for refreshments. Have a down home buffet table with homemade pies, macaroni and cheese, hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad and locally grown vegetables and fruits. When it starts to get dark, start a fire and make s’mores.

Rustic Reception. Use the colors of autumn such as deep reds, oranges, and browns to make this theme come alive. Wheat stalks, wood napkin rings, pumpkins, gourds and leaves, would be great decorations for this theme. Think about using hot apple cider, candy apples, mini pumpkin or pecan pies, shot glasses of butternut squash and tomato soup in your food choices to tie the theme together. Sending guests off with a bag of caramel popcorn is a creative way to end the night.

Valentine’s Day Wedding. What holiday is more romantic than Valentine’s Day? A classic wedding dress and tuxedo is the perfect attire for this theme. Carry a bouquet of deep red roses and get married with soft lighting provided by candles. Give guests boxes of candy hearts as their wedding favors and serve chocolate covered strawberries instead of having a wedding cake.

Classic Wedding. Want a stunning, elegant wedding ceremony and reception? Have an all white, classic wedding. Use white table linens, place settings, and white flower centerpieces with hanging pearls or crystals. Use white feathers in the bouquet and centerpieces to make them stand out. Serve White Russians during the cocktail hour.

Christmas Wedding. The holidays are a romantic time of year. Make the winter holidays more special by planning a Christmas themed wedding. There are a few color combinations that would be a great fit for this theme: silver and white, silver and light blue, white and gold, or burgundy, dark green, and gold. For décor, use candles, fake snow, and/or evergreen trees with sparkling ornaments. Serve hot apple cider, hot cocoa, and eggnog to put guests in the Christmas spirit. Christmas ornaments are unique favors that guests will use year after year. Read more about planning a Christmas wedding on a budget with this article.

wedding telegrams

Telegrams used to be common modes of correspondence for various special occasions. Samuel F. B. Morse sent the first telegraphy message in 1844 from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore. Later, he developed the concept of a network of stations that could send and receive messages through the telegraph system.

wedding night

Much of the drama surrounding wedding night sex is lore, handed down by generations (claiming to, or successfully) abstaining until matrimony. The majority of brides and grooms these days have engaged in some form of pre-marital sex, but wedding night performance applies if you and your bride are virgins, or decidedly not.

wedding nightwedding night

While you're likely not navigating the female form for the first time, be ready for a different set of jitters. You may find yourself struggling to perform, or even forcing yourself to get in the mood. Don't worry; the beautiful lady on the other side of the veil will be thinking the same thing.

wedding night
The best day of your life will not be the easiest. After having trouble sleeping the night before, you will fight boredom until it is time to dress, having watched weekend rerun movies until you slam the remote and pace in frustration. Your day starts in late afternoon or early evening with the ceremony and may last well into the next morning. Sometime after midnight, you and your wife are in an emotional maelstrom, tired and alone at last.

If you catch a second wind, go with the urge. Many, though, will struggle with the decision. Wedding night sex shifts form the discovery of parts unknown to tacit obligation. What do you do?

Of course, common sense should win out. If you and your wife are not in the mood, don't go through the motions for the sake of form; you've already been through one ceremony. Sex should be fulfilling and satisfying - like your marriage as a whole. To start a lifetime together with "Oh, let's get this over with" opposes everything that has driven the day.

If you have the energy and the inclination, though, enjoy your first night as a husband. You are ready. Your wife is ready. You know what comes next.
