For Your Special Moment

Your wedding is one of the most important days in your life. That's why it's important to put some thought and preparation into the hairstyle you choose for the big day. How do you select a hair style that will be appropriate on your big day?

* First of all, you must take your hair type and texture into consideration when choosing your wedding hairstyle. This is not the time to try to go against the natural inclination of your hair. If you were born with thick, curly hair, you probably shouldn't opt for a stick straight wedding hair style as it would be difficult to get your hair to cooperate Plus, your hair may not hold up through all the activities you'll be taking part in during the day.

* Should you wear your hair up or leave it hanging loose? This depends upon your personality as well as the outfit you're wearing. If you've never worn your hair in an up do, your wedding day's probably not the time to start. In fact, any type of radical change in your hair style is probably not a good choice. You're going to be nervous enough and you don't want to worry about how people are going to react to your hair. If you have long hair and are comfortable wearing it up, it can look stunning pulled back into a simple chignon. Add some beautiful hair accessories or flowers and you're sure to look the part of the elegant bride.

For Your Special Moment

How do you shop for a wedding planner? Just as you should do when you look for any type of service professional, you can ask friends and family for recommendations. If you can get a word-of-mouth referral, this is better than all of the advertisements and glowing referrals provided to you by the wedding planner. If you don’t know anyone who has used a planner, you can always look in the phone book or the classifieds in the newspaper.

Once you have a few potential leads you will need to interview the wedding planner candidates. You are hiring them for an important job, and you need to have confidence that they share your “vision” for your special day. See how willing they are to take suggestions and see what they will do with the ideas that you already have. Do they have doubts about their ability to fulfill your needs? This is a yellow flag, but see why they have concerns before you make a judgment. Once you have interviewed a few planners you are ready to make your decision and get to work.

Most wedding consultants charge a fee of around 10 percent of the cost of the wedding. This is standard-and it is worth it for the peace of mind it will give you.

Before you decide on your wedding decorations, you’re going to have to do some planning. Here are some ideas to get you started.

* Does your wedding have a theme? Themed weddings can be a lot of fun for everyone involved. Some popular themes are black & white, Valentine’s Day, garden party, country & western, beach and medieval.

* What’s your budget and how many people are you expecting? The number of guests and the amount of money you have to spend will have a big impact on how extravagant your weddings decorations will be. Keep in mind that while table decorations and favors seem inexpensive, the totals add up quickly when you have a large number of guests.

* Where are you holding your reception? Your choice of venue will have a lot to do with deciding on your weddings decorations. A country club wedding will be decorated much differently than a beach side barbecue.

* If you decide not to use a theme for your wedding, you’ll need to choose a color or two to focus on. Many brides find floral catalogs inspiring or you might want to browse through wedding magazines and take note of the color combinations that catch your eye.

Weddings

A wedding is the ceremony in which two people are united in marriage. Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes. Most wedding ceremonies involve an exchange of wedding vows by the couple, presentation of a gift (offering, ring(s), symbolic item, flowers, money), and a public proclamation of marriage by an authority figure or leader. Special wedding garments are often worn, and the ceremony is followed by a wedding reception. Music, poetry, prayers or readings from Scripture or literature also may be incorporated in the ceremony.

A number of cultures adopt the western custom of a bride wearing a white dress. This tradition came to symbolize purity in the Victorian era (despite popular misconception, the white dress did not indicate virginity, which was symbolized by the face veil). Within the 'white wedding' tradition, a white dress and veil would not have been considered appropriate for a second or third wedding of a widow or a divorcee.

Weddings
Exchanging rings may be the oldest and most universal symbol of marriage, but the origins are unclear. The ring's circular shape represents perfection and never-ending love. The rings are exchanged during the wedding ceremony and according to tradition, symbolize the love, faithfulness and commitment of the marriage union.

The wedding is often followed by a reception in which the rituals may include toasting the bride and groom, the newlyweds' first dance as husband and wife, and the cake cutting.

Plan a Wedding with a Dramatic Theme:

Garden Party. An elegant garden party can be the perfect setting for an intimate wedding. Use a bird’s nest for the “ring pillow” and make individual bird’s nests that have jelly beans in the center for place cards, favors, and decorations. Wear a wedding gown made of light lace or organza to fit the theme. Use fruit as an addition to flower centerpieces and have the flower girl pull a wagon filled with rose petals down the aisle.

“Green” Wedding. Eco-conscious couples might consider planning an environmentally friendly wedding. Use herbs to decorate the location. This is cost effective and will make the reception smell earthy. Small potted herbs can be used for decorations, name cards, and favors. House Party. Ever think about hosting a wedding at home? If there is enough room at home or in the backyard, this can become an intimate, beautiful wedding theme. Serve lemonade and sweet tea for refreshments. Have a down home buffet table with homemade pies, macaroni and cheese, hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad and locally grown vegetables and fruits. When it starts to get dark, start a fire and make s’mores.

Rustic Reception. Use the colors of autumn such as deep reds, oranges, and browns to make this theme come alive. Wheat stalks, wood napkin rings, pumpkins, gourds and leaves, would be great decorations for this theme. Think about using hot apple cider, candy apples, mini pumpkin or pecan pies, shot glasses of butternut squash and tomato soup in your food choices to tie the theme together. Sending guests off with a bag of caramel popcorn is a creative way to end the night.

Valentine’s Day Wedding. What holiday is more romantic than Valentine’s Day? A classic wedding dress and tuxedo is the perfect attire for this theme. Carry a bouquet of deep red roses and get married with soft lighting provided by candles. Give guests boxes of candy hearts as their wedding favors and serve chocolate covered strawberries instead of having a wedding cake.

Classic Wedding. Want a stunning, elegant wedding ceremony and reception? Have an all white, classic wedding. Use white table linens, place settings, and white flower centerpieces with hanging pearls or crystals. Use white feathers in the bouquet and centerpieces to make them stand out. Serve White Russians during the cocktail hour.

Christmas Wedding. The holidays are a romantic time of year. Make the winter holidays more special by planning a Christmas themed wedding. There are a few color combinations that would be a great fit for this theme: silver and white, silver and light blue, white and gold, or burgundy, dark green, and gold. For décor, use candles, fake snow, and/or evergreen trees with sparkling ornaments. Serve hot apple cider, hot cocoa, and eggnog to put guests in the Christmas spirit. Christmas ornaments are unique favors that guests will use year after year. Read more about planning a Christmas wedding on a budget with this article.
